To make aware of the impact of art on our personal and societal well-being and in celebration of seniors’ creativity, H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Cultural and Art Museum proudly holds the Senior Artists’ Art Exhibit appraised by many art advocates.
WEST COVINA, CA, October 30, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ — In this harvesting, golden season, The Los Angeles Senior Artists’ Art Exhibit – Collections From the Treasure Chest, is being held at the H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Cultural and Art Museum from October 28 through November 4. Brian Tyan, President of the museum, said this exhibit showcases 80 paintings and is specially held for Southern California painters 50 or older – including artists from Walnut Grove Art Association, Pasadena Senior Center and Arcadia Senior Center. The two oldest artist are 97 and 100. This exhibit is a public beneficial and free event and is open to all people. The opening ceremony saw many advocates of the museum, including Covina City Mayor, Mr. Jorge Marquez, Mayor of City of Walnut, Ms. Mary Su and others. They appraised the museum for the meaningful event and its positive impact on the communities.
Among the VIPs was Dr. Maureen Kellen-Taylor, a Visiting Scholar of the USC Davis School and an expert in Gerontology, pointed out that art is a survival skill; the way the art-making process enhances our brain cells is like the way hunting sharpened our ancestors’ senses and physical capacities. She further indicated that art activities improve seniors’ health significantly and help save about $3,000 dollars of care a month, which reduces the cost shared by taxpayers, families and the societies significantly!
As a non-profit organization, the H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Cultural and Art Museum is dedicated to promoting art and culture. Additionally, it has always been paying attention to various disadvantaged groups for the purposes of advancing community development, social stability and harmonic family lives. Since its opening, the museum has held several beneficial art shows and competitions for school students as well as autistic youths. Besides providing opportunities for the young people to show their own artworks and giving encouragement to those talented and hard-working students in developing their art careers, those events also called the attention of the society to the various disadvantaged groups.
The Senior Artists’ Art Exhibit held by the museum this time is, as those previous beneficial art events did for the young students, meant to recognize their achievements, encourage their efforts and offer them a channel to show their talents. This will further affirm their self-value and make their lives more productive, fulfilling and colorful. Moreover, it is meant to help the younger generations understand and appreciate more the values and contributions generated by these older elite forerunners of our societies. Some participating artists’ skills have reached the level of professional artists. “Every cell in our being is creative. Every cell is responding to outside stimulations and changing. So we are all creative,” Dr. Kellen-Taylor affirmed with sparkling eyes like stars in painting The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh.
The Los Angeles Senior Artists’ Art Exhibit is held at the H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Cultural and Art Museum at 170 E School St., Covina, CA 91723. The telephone number is (626)281-6378.
